Strangers Help 86-Year-Old Who’s Been Building a 62-foot Boat in his Yard Since 1987 (opens in a new tab)

Good News Network reports on Dale, an 86-year-old from Mineral Wells, Texas, who has been building a 62-foot steel boat outside his house since 1987 and hopes to sail it to Alaska. When three English visitors dropped by, one of them, Laurence Benson, started a GoFundMe, and over 1,500 donors gave within days to pay for finishing work, moving the boat down a steep hill and getting it to a launch site.

Why it's cozy: Dale climbed a ladder for the first time in years to show three English visitors his boat's deck, and they decided his 40-year dream deserved a launch.

🥧 Cozy recipe

1-Bowl Honey Almond Snack Cake (Gluten-Free) (opens in a new tab)

Minimalist Baker's honey almond snack cake is a light, spongy loaf sweetened with honey and made without gluten or dairy. It takes ten ingredients, a single bowl and no mixer, gets a scatter of sliced almonds before it goes in the oven, and finishes with another drizzle of honey once it has cooled a little.

Why it's cozy: The loaf skips gluten and dairy so quietly that the friend with a food restriction gets the same slice as everyone else at brunch.

🫖 Tea to try

TARDIS Tea, Tin of 20 Sachets (opens in a new tab)

Harney & Sons blends TARDIS Tea as an English Breakfast style black tea with milk and sugar flavors already in it, so each cup comes out creamy and a little sweet with nothing added. The tin, licensed by BBC Studios, is printed to look like the TARDIS itself and holds 20 sachets, one per mug.

Why it's cozy: Like a friend who remembers how you take your tea, this blend does the stirring for you, a nod to the TARDIS that always knows.

🕯️ Try this today

Light a candle at dusk instead of the overhead light

When the sky starts to dim, light one candle and a single lamp instead of the ceiling light. Let your eyes adjust and notice how much softer the room feels.

Why it's cozy: Swapping the ceiling light for one candle and a lamp turns nightfall into something you notice rather than something that just happens.

Bryan Ford's cozy bread pudding recipe turns day-old bread into a rum-topped dessert (opens in a new tab)

The Frederick News-Post runs Bryan Ford's pudín de pan from his cookbook Pan y Dulce, a rum-topped bread pudding made from loaves a day or two old. Ford explains that slightly dry bread drinks in the sweet custard of milk and eggs best, and that almond, oat or coconut milk can stand in for the dairy.

Why it's cozy: Ford's pudín de pan rescues a loaf gone dry, the same waste-not habit that gave many cultures their own bread pudding.
