Apple Cider Margarita (opens in a new tab)

Love and Lemons shakes up a fall margarita from apple cider, tequila, orange liqueur and lime, with an optional cinnamon sugar rim and garnishes like star anise or cinnamon sticks. Jeanine Donofrio came up with it in Austin, where October is still too warm for mulled wine. A final taste lets you add more cider for sweetness or more lime for brightness.

Why it's cozy: Mixed in a pitcher up to a day ahead, all eight servings are ready before the doorbell rings, so the host gets to sit down with the guests.

Maple Apple Cider (opens in a new tab)

Stash Tea builds this caffeine-free herbal blend on smooth rooibos, with cinnamon, hibiscus and natural maple, apple and caramel flavors. It comes in boxes of 18 tea bags and steeps for three to five minutes, and Stash's blenders call it sweet and spiced with just enough apple.

Why it's cozy: Maple, apple and cinnamon over rooibos taste like a farm-stand cider, a sweet bit of fall you can steep without leaving the house.

Adam Wins Le Guin Prize (opens in a new tab)

Locus reports that New Zealand writer Pip Adam has won the 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction for her novel Audition, from Coffee House Press. The winner was named on October 21, Le Guin's birthday. The judges praised how its three main characters, people society has given up on, gradually regain their footing, their bonds with one another and a sense of hope.

Why it's cozy: Judges naming forgiveness as this book's way forward, and calling it joyful in the end, makes it a fitting heir to Le Guin's humane imagination.

[Sample Reading] Kanako Meno's Fruit Basket 《Cozy Mystery》 (opens in a new tab)

On note, Akane Tsukimori shares a sample from a new short story collection, Kanako Meno's Fruit Basket, headed to the Bungaku Furima Tokyo 43 literary fair. Its seven stories mix gentle mysteries and romantic comedy, including one written just for the book. In the excerpt, Kanako teases a reporter named Masaru about how beautifully he arranges a plate of sliced Sun Fuji apples.

Why it's cozy: One story here is a mystery about little more than drinking juice, so the stakes stay tiny and the fruit and banter carry it.
