Cards Against Humanity has sent free family games to nearly 5,000 libraries (opens in a new tab)

Good Good Good reports that for six years the game company has mailed free copies of its Family Edition to public libraries, and on October 13 it asked people to tag a branch that could use a box. Nearly a thousand replies named libraries from North Carolina to Arizona within a day. The idea is a cozy one: neighbors around one table, playing together in the town's warmest public room.

Why it's cozy: People rushed to nominate their own local branch, and each box that arrives gives families one more reason to play face to face.

Teen’s Disaster Messaging App Can ‘Hop’ Across Bluetooth When Cellular Networks Collapse (opens in a new tab)

Good News Network reports that Emirhan Duman, a 17-year-old in Istanbul, has been building Crisis Connect by himself since April 2025, an idea born from the phone and internet blackouts after the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye. His open-source app lets nearby phones hop messages and calls to one another over Bluetooth when cell networks go down.

Why it's cozy: Emirhan's app turns the phones already sitting in millions of pockets into neighbors, each one passing along a stranger's message when the towers fall.

The Secret Garden (opens in a new tab)

Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel sends a sour, lonely girl to a Yorkshire house and a garden that has been locked for years. The turn is quiet: fresh air, a cousin, and a place that comes back to life with her. A LibriVox reading lets you take that slow repair in by ear, which is the reason to press play on a gray day.

Why it's cozy: The unseen child Mary hears crying turns out to be a cousin as lonely as she is, and the two find friendship while the garden wakes up.

Good News Network reports that as autumn settles over the Great Plains of North America, the biggest private land conservation project in the country is marking a milestone. The resident herd of free-roaming bison has reached more than 1,000 for the first time since the organization’s founding over 20 years ago.

Why it's cozy: This fall's calf count tipped American Prairie's herd past a thousand, and those young bison are growing up on grassland people spent twenty years stitching back together.

Rainy Lofi Hip Hop · 2 Hour Mix to Study, Focus & Relax (opens in a new tab)

Toneblind Tunes uploaded this rainy lofi hip-hop mix on 16 June 2026, and the title calls it a two-hour set for study, focus, and relaxing. The beat stays soft and the rain stays in the background, so you can leave it on without following a story. It is an easy thing to start when you want company without conversation.

Why it's cozy: Rain patters behind the beat for a solid two hours, long enough for several good chapters while a gray October afternoon stays outside the window.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865)

Why it's cozy: Alice asks the Cheshire Cat which way to go, and his famous non-answer gives permission to wander without a plan for an afternoon.

The House in the Cerulean Sea (opens in a new tab)

Linus Baker is a careful caseworker sent to inspect an orphanage for magical children on a remote island. T. J. Klune's novel lets him stay long enough to know the children, and the man raising them, as people rather than files. The question he takes home is whether a safe life is the same thing as a small one.

Why it's cozy: Linus comes to write up the island's magical children as cases, and their odd, loving household teaches him that family can be chosen.
